Gwinnett County Republican Party

Despite the fact that Gwinnett is considered to be a predominately Republican county, just over fifty years ago, Republicans were few and far between. At that time, like most of Georgia, most county citizens voted Democrat.

In 1953, some 15 to 20 people formed what became the Gwinnett County Republican Party. Being a member of the GOP wasn't popular at the time -- when the Party purchased a banner promoting Dwight Eisenhower's presidential campaign, angry citizens tore it down and burned it while the police watched.

The Gwinnett GOP in 2008

GOP ElephantNow, the Gwinnett Republican Party is an active, vital organization. In addition to holding a regular monthly breakfast meeting for all members and guests, the organization holds monthly membership and executive committee meetings at party headquarters, 910 Parkside Walk Lane in Lawrenceville.

Last year, Gwinnett's Republicans were proud to host the Georgia GOP State Convention, at the Gwinnett Civic and Cultural Center.

The principles of the Republican Party include the ideas that individuals, not government, can make the best decisions; that all people are entitled to individual rights, and that decision making is best when it is made close to home.

The Gwinnett Republican Party is part of a structure that starts with the Republican National Committee. Georgia is represented with the Georgia Republican Party, and the county with the Gwinnett Republican Party. At the county level, the party consists of members in each school district, and within each school district, individual precinct captains. All of these groups work together to promote Republican principles, and get out the vote on election day.
